Inspiration from a short video (看「理財真人Show」後感)

Hi guys and girls! This is Jerry, the author of this blog! Today, I will deliver my promise by translating one of my old posts to English so that my English reader could also read about it!

慳錢大挑戰 為咗租樓可以去到幾盡?下集【理財真人Show】第一季Ep.2

In case any of you who doesn't know Cantonese or is too lazy to open the link, I will do a very short summary of the video. It is a reality show of a young adult who wants to rent a place to live. In order to make it happen, his mentor assigned $625 to him to spend for a week. Spending nearly 30% of the amount on the first day, he failed to meet his budget at last.

In my opinion, this kind of videos are nothing ground-breaking for Hong Kong people, but it makes me understand how people of my age spend money.

I am lucky that I have a relatively high-paid job, but I still choose to be frugal in a certain degree. For example, I have never paid to watch a football match and I tried my best to turn down unimportant social gatherings. I also spend as little as I can on my lunch. Yet, I do not find my frugal life tough because it is my own choice. I know, in order to achieve early financial freedom, I must save a lot first and think about ways to create wealth from my saving.

A festive meal or a fascinating football match might bring satisfaction for a period of time. Yet, I believe happiness is not created from spending money to buy some stuff or experience. Happiness is inside us waiting to be found.

All in all, I am very grateful of myself choosing a different path. There are still a lot to learn on the way to financial freedom. I hope I could keep this mentality until the day of freedom.

Regular Financial Updates 2019 Q1

Hi guys!

This is Jerry, the author of this blog! This is the first post I made since the big change in my blog. I decided to post the total asset I have so that you guys could witness my growth.

This is the quarter report of my asset:

Yes, I decided to update my financial details quarterly even though I know some bloggers will disclose their financial summary each month. I chose to do it quarterly because average listed companies only report their financials quarterly. Even though I am not running a company (yet!), I find this practice more reasonable.

My financial goal of 2019 is to make it around 1.1 million, according to my financial freedom plan. I reached 70% of the goal so far. Do you think I will be successful? Please comment below!

Thank you for your time! See you next time!

February Expenses 2019

Hello, everyone!

I am Jerry, the author of this blog!

Here comes the expenses of February:

Money for parents: $5500
This is the money I gave to my parents every month. If you are a foreigner, you may find it strange. Yet, this is a common practice in Hong Kong or some other Asian countries.

Food& Beverages: $888.8
This includes the eating out with friends so it might vary month to month. In my experience, below $1000 means I did not have many social gathering with my friends that month.

Entertainments: $416
I spent some money for the games I played. To be honest, I felt good when playing the games but afters some time I became guilty of spending the money on some virtual things. I might need to find some ways to prevent myself from spending this kind of money.

Transportation: $395.2
There is a long Lunar New Year holiday so I did not have to go to work for almost two weeks. This saved me a lot of transport fee.

Household products: $218
I helped my family to buy some stuff.

Mobile fee: $116
Connection to the Internet is a necessity of modern human, right?

TOTAL: $7638
Thanks to the CNY holiday, I stayed frugal without really sacrificing my quality of life. I find the result very satisfying.

What about you? How much did you spend last month? Please let me know by commenting below! See you next time!
