Regular Financial Updates 2021 Q4

 Hi guys!

This is Jerry, the author of this blog! I decided to post the total asset I have so that you guys could witness my journey.

This is the FINAL quarter asset report of 2021:

I made it! I reached the 2 million milestone at the age of 29. I should give myself a medal because I worked so hard this year!

To be honest, this is not the results of good investment strategy and skills, but the fruits of my hustling and budgeting. Every month I generated an extra income of $15-20k from working side hustles and saved around 65% of all my income.

While some said FIRE is impossible, I still believe it is worth a try. Even if I fail, it will be a fruitful journey.

As for the plan of 2022, I changed my mind. I will not make a youtube channel, but I will make something else. Details will be shown in the post tomorrow!

Regular Financial Updates 2021 Q3

Hi guys!

This is Jerry, the author of this blog! I decided to post the total asset I have so that you guys could witness my journey.

This is the belated THIRD quarter asset report of 2021:

Though it may be too early to say this, I am quite sure I will meet my financial target this year. Recently I have been reading more about cryptocurrencies. While I believe crypto will be part of the future, I am still thinking about what to write on this blog. I don't want to just summarize and rephrase all the 101 information. On the other hand, I am also interested in opening a Youtube channel where I can share my FIRE journey in another format.

Regular Financial Updates 2021 Q2

Hi guys!

This is Jerry, the author of this blog! I decided to post the total asset I have so that you guys could witness my journey.

This is the SECOND quarter asset report of 2021:

Thanks to my side hustle income. the yearly goal is very likely to be met. Since the future of HK is very uncertain, I will keep my best to earn and save as much money as I can. While I will continue to save for an apartment, I will restart contributing some of my saving to ETFs. I will keep you guys updated!

Year plan progress
1) Two millions milestone
Very good. Likely to be met.

2) New language
No progress so far. I will follow up after my back gets better.

Regular Financial Updates 2021 Q1

Hi guys!

This is Jerry, the author of this blog! I decided to post the total asset I have so that you guys could witness my journey.

This is the FIRST quarter asset report of 2021:

There are something happening in my family so I decided to keep more cash as I may need to buy an apartment in HK to accommodate my family within the coming few years. I am trying my best to put those cash in some high interest accounts. I will soon share with you guys which HK banks provide high interest! Look forward to it!

Year plan progress
1) Two millions milestone
Very good. I will continue to work those parttime jobs to keep my income high.

2) New language
Recently I have been occupied by my family stuff. I stopped learning since March. I will pick up my momentum in April.

Regular Financial Updates 2020 Q4

Hi guys!

This is Jerry, the author of this blog! I decided to post the total asset I have so that you guys could witness my growth.

This is the FINAL quarter asset report of 2020:

Surprisingly, during the era of uncertainties, I am really glad to know that I have achieved my target this year. It turned out so well because of two things: I did some extra side hustles, and the US stock market reached a new high.

While I cannot control the up and down of the market, the side hustles are all up to me. Honestly, it is quite overwhelming to go to see extra clients after my full-time job for three to four times a week. However, the hard work paid off well.

It may be too early to announce my new year resolutions now. Yet, I have already come up with two goals.

First, I will try my best to reach the 2 million milestone. My strategy is to do some side hustles to cover all my basic needs such as transportation and food, as well as the money I pay for my family. Then I can save a big chunk of my salary and invest them in the market.

Second, I will learn a new language. Since the future of Hong Kong is uncertain and my girlfriend asks me to move to a SEA country with her, there is a chance that I have to leave Hong Kong someday. Learning a new language is fun, and this new language will definitely help me adapt to the new destination. Yet, this is a long game. It is unlikely for me to move to anywhere before I create enough wealth.

That's all for today. I probably will write one more post to conclude the trading of December as well as the uneasy 2020.

Please leave your comment here if you have anything to say to me.

Talk to you soon.

Regular Financial Updates 2020 Q3

 Hi guys!

This is Jerry, the author of this blog! I decided to post the total asset I have so that you guys could witness my growth.

This is the third quarter asset report of 2020:

If I update this in early September, you may see a different story. My annual goal may have been reached already. Nonetheless, what happened, happened. The stock market started plummeting in mid September. Luckily, due to Vanguard's exit from HK, I sold half of my ETF 3140 and captured some profits before the drop. I have talked about this action in another post so I will not repeat here.

The COVID-19 is still rampant worldwide, and the geopolitical risk escalates to a high level thanks to the US President election. Regardless of the above-mentioned, I will continue to buy ETFs. As I said before, discipline is the key to investing. Even if the stock market continues to drop in October, I will buy on schedule.

This quarter taught me a lesson: Never make a conclusion too early. Originally I thought I could not reach the annual goal. Now, it seems possible. If I do nothing, and just spend and save as usual, I will be less 20k from the goal. This means, if I generate or save 6k extra each month for the remaining three months, my goal will be reached. It's challenging, but I like challenges. We will know the results after three months.

Regular Financial Updates 2020 Q2

Hi guys!

This is Jerry, the author of this blog! I decided to post the total asset I have so that you guys could witness my growth.

This is the second quarter asset report of 2020:

Last quarter was a nightmare. In March, the stock market dropped about 30% and so did my assets. I bought in some stocks too early. Then I sold them too early. I missed the rebound afterwards. This experience makes me rethink if my strategy is good or not.

Then I realise it is my mind, not my strategy. I was scared when it came down 30% from the top. I didn't believe it's true when it started to rebound. Therefore, I spent some money and time to learn about investing.

I learnt no matter it is trading or investing, planning and discipline are the key. Why to buy/sell and when to buy/sell are the questions to ask. Execute your plan when signals arrive. Don't hesitate. I will remember this lesson.

Regular Financial Updates 2019 Q4

Hi guys!

This is Jerry, the author of this blog! I decided to post the total asset I have so that you guys could witness my growth.

This is the last quarter asset report of 2019:

Hurray! I did it! This is one of my biggest achievement in my life! Even though HKD$ 1 million is a small amount to a lot of people, I accumulate this amount at age of 27. This means a lot to me. I am really proud of myself.

Some people may be curious about how I regain the money 'lost' last quarter. First, my stocks have a rebound of 25% which is the same level at Q2. Second, I tried my best to check if I have any 'missing' assets and I discovered I have some old MPF accounts which were not counted before. These accounts were opened during my previous jobs. I merged all these accounts into one. Besides, I  found some idle cash at home. They are my emergent money in case that HK situation worsens and I forgot to count them in before. Therefore, all this 'lost' money may not be real growth of my asset but it explains how I reach my goal this year!

All in all, my asset goal of 2019 is 1.1 million and I only reached around 96%. Yet, I will still count myself successful this year! I look forward to 2020 in which my goal is 1.3 million! How was your 2019? Did you achieve your goal?  Please comment below and let me know!

Regular Financial Updates 2019 Q3

Hi guys!

This is Jerry, the author of this blog! I decided to post the total asset I have so that you guys could witness my growth.

This is the third quarter asset report of 2019:

Yes, there is a drop my asset. This is solely because of the fluctuation of the stock market. My stock portfolio dropped around 20%. This seems a lot because my portfolio contains some stocks that I bought when I was a total dummy of investment. I didn't sell them even when they dropped so much. This is a lesson I will remember my whole life. Stock picking may be interesting but buying the index makes sure I earn the money. I am reconstructing my portfolio by buying only ETF of HSI and S&P500. I hope I am not too late to correct my mistake.

All in all, my financial goal of 2019 is to make it around 1.1 million. I reached nearly 80% of the goal so far. Do you think I will be successful? Please comment below!

Thank you for your time! See you next time!

Regular Financial Updates 2019 Q2

Hi guys!

This is Jerry, the author of this blog! I decided to post the total asset I have so that you guys could witness my growth.

This is the second quarter asset report of 2019:

I should have done this in June but I foresee that I will be busy in June so I decided to do it at the end of May.

Before interpreting the numbers, I have to mention that in the previous recorded months I forgot to input a very significant amount which is the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF). It is a retirement scheme of Hong Kong citizen in which you must deposit 5% of your monthly salary into that account until age of 65. As a result, you can see the graph is a little steeper this quarter.

However, if I do not count the MPF, there aren't many gains in assets. This is very weird for me because my expense records told me that I spent far less than my earnings. After some investigations(haha), I found out that there are two reasons. First, it is the stock market. The market has dropped quite a lot for the past few months. Second, there is a loophole in my expense record. I didn't record the money I gave to my girlfriend. (Yes, I voluntarily gave her money to support her living.) Therefore, I will include this category in my expense and my budget so as to make all the records more accurate.

All in all, my financial goal of 2019 is to make it around 1.1 million. I reached nearly 90% of the goal so far. Do you think I will be successful? Please comment below!

Thank you for your time! See you next time!

Regular Financial Updates 2019 Q1

Hi guys!

This is Jerry, the author of this blog! This is the first post I made since the big change in my blog. I decided to post the total asset I have so that you guys could witness my growth.

This is the quarter report of my asset:

Yes, I decided to update my financial details quarterly even though I know some bloggers will disclose their financial summary each month. I chose to do it quarterly because average listed companies only report their financials quarterly. Even though I am not running a company (yet!), I find this practice more reasonable.

My financial goal of 2019 is to make it around 1.1 million, according to my financial freedom plan. I reached 70% of the goal so far. Do you think I will be successful? Please comment below!

Thank you for your time! See you next time!

This is Jerry, the author of this blog! This is the first post I made since the big change in my blog. I decided to post the total asset I have so that you guys could witness my growth.

The chart is quite simple, right? Because I only know how to make a chart with Excel! Please let me know if you know any other programs that generate better chart.

The data before June is not shown because I only started recording data that time.

My goal of 2019 is to make it through one million. Do you think I will be successful? Please comment below!

Thank you for your time! See you next time!
