Monthly Investment Plan - Introduction (US)

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we all enter a bear market. While some are still panic, I decided to start my investment plan since this is probably a good window to buy stocks in a cheaper price. However, no one could predict how low the price will be. Therefore, I will use dollar cost averaging technique. Each month USD 1000 will be invested in VOO. Since I use Firsttrade Securities, there will be no trading fee charged by the broker. I will split the $1000 into two, with one buying on 5th trading day of the month and another on 15th trading day, so as to further diverge the timing risk.

I hold some VOO before I start this plan:

This plan will last for 12 months. After that, I will consider if I continue or not.

Some might think I am crazy to enter the market at this timeframe. What do you think? What is your plan during the bear market? Please let me know and comment below!

Monthly investment plan - Introduction (Hong Kong)

I think most people are shocked about what happened to the stock market last week. At first, I was shocked and worried as well, but then I realize this may be a rare opportunity for me to buy some stocks. Therefore, I decided to invest in the market now using dollar cost averaging.

I will invest a fixed amount of money (HKD$2000) each month under the monthly stock investment plan (MIP) of Chief Securities Ltd. There will be zero fees charged by this broker. Only $5.15 will be charged to pay for the tax each time. The plan allows me to buy twice a month (on the 5th and 15th trading day).

I will invest in two ETFs- 2800 and 3140. I have held these two ETFs before I started this plan this month:

Yes... I am losing money but it is tolerable for me as I am still earning income from my full time job. I plan to invest for 12 consecutive months because I think the impact of the virus will last at least one year. I will consider if I continue this plan or not after 12 months.

Besides, I will invest in 6 different stocks twice each month using the same plan ($3000/month):
REITs: 823, 435
Properties stock: 16, 12

I only hold some stocks of 823 while I hold none of others:

That's it! This is my plan under a bear market. What do you think? Do you think this is a wise decision for me? Please comment below and let me know!

February Expenses 2020

Hello, everyone!

I am Jerry, the author of this blog!

CONVID-19 has made the world in turmoil. My company allows me to work at home which becomes a de-facto holiday because my job requires more hand-on work with my client instead of paper work.

Anyways, here comes the expenses of February:

Money for my family and GF: $11333.33

Food& Beverages: $221.5

Transportation: $400.13

Phone: $116

Personal growth: $101.68

Miscellaneous: $1190

TOTAL: $13362.64

I spent on around 30% of my income this month so I can make up for the "loss" last month. Yet, I think this is the minimum amount I need for my living. I really want to explore another income source no matter it is a part-time job or a side business, but I am still thinking about it.

Next month, regardless of the virus situation, work will start resuming gradually, but the spending should be similar with this month as there will not be few or even zero entertainments!

What about you? How much did you spend in February? Please let me know by commenting below! See you next time!

January Expenses 2020

Hello, everyone!

I am Jerry, the author of this blog!

Many things happened in the first month of 2020. I went to Thailand to find my girlfriend and I had a big quarrel with her. Then she came to HK with me and we had another quarrel. Thanks God, everything is okay now.

Anyways, here comes the expenses of January:

Money for my family and GF: $11333.33

Food& Beverages: $2469.7

Entertainments: $6283.48

Transportation: $764.2

Phone: $187

Miscellaneous: $9660.95

TOTAL: $30698.66
Wow! I spent a lot this month. More than 75% of my income. The largest part was spent on my GF. She had some financial issues so I decided to help her out. Since she came to HK with me, we spent a lot of time together- eating out and going around. Besides, some money was spent on some medical consumables including masks and hand sanitizers because HK is facing an epidemic! I hope the virus will go soon and my expense next month will go down again.

December Expenses 2019

Hello, everyone!

I am Jerry, the author of this blog!

In order to make things more precise and simple, I will stop explaining every category. I will comment everything in the last paragraph instead.

Anyways, here comes the expenses of December:

Money for my family: $5500

Food& Beverages: $1249

Entertainments: $7691.54

Transportation: $350.9

Phone: $116

Miscellaneous: $973

TOTAL: $15880.44
To be honest, I spent so little this month. I went to travel once. This explains why my entertainment category went up so high. Besides, I saw doctor once and spent some money on self-improvements.
All in all, I managed to keep my expenses below 50% of my income. Good news for me!

What about you? How much did you spend in December? Please let me know by commenting below! See you next time!

Regular Financial Updates 2019 Q4

Hi guys!

This is Jerry, the author of this blog! I decided to post the total asset I have so that you guys could witness my growth.

This is the last quarter asset report of 2019:

Hurray! I did it! This is one of my biggest achievement in my life! Even though HKD$ 1 million is a small amount to a lot of people, I accumulate this amount at age of 27. This means a lot to me. I am really proud of myself.

Some people may be curious about how I regain the money 'lost' last quarter. First, my stocks have a rebound of 25% which is the same level at Q2. Second, I tried my best to check if I have any 'missing' assets and I discovered I have some old MPF accounts which were not counted before. These accounts were opened during my previous jobs. I merged all these accounts into one. Besides, I  found some idle cash at home. They are my emergent money in case that HK situation worsens and I forgot to count them in before. Therefore, all this 'lost' money may not be real growth of my asset but it explains how I reach my goal this year!

All in all, my asset goal of 2019 is 1.1 million and I only reached around 96%. Yet, I will still count myself successful this year! I look forward to 2020 in which my goal is 1.3 million! How was your 2019? Did you achieve your goal?  Please comment below and let me know!

November Expenses 2019

Hello, everyone!

I am Jerry, the author of this blog!

We never know what life prepares for us. While Hong Kong situation did not improve, I did not commit myself to the movement as much as my friend did. Out of loneliness, I met few girls through networking app and started dating one of them.

Anyways, here comes the expenses of November:

Money for my family: $7500
I gave $5500 to my parents every month. This is a tradition of Hong Kong people.

Food& Beverages: $1804
I ate out a lot as I asked some girls out for dinner and lunch. Besides, the two reasons from last month were still valid this month.

Entertainments: $4068.5
This is really crazy. This expenses include the swimming pool admission fees, online shopping and all the funs I have with the newly met girls.

Transportation: $385.2
This is about my average. Yet, the actual amount will be less since the HK government is now subsidising our transportation fee for around few dollars per month depending on your amount.

Phone: $116
This is the phone bill.

Clothes: $1202.7
I bought two new shirt from ASOS since my old shirts were worn out.

Household: $1380
I bought a new filter for my family's water purifier and some other household products.

Miscellaneous: $986
I saw doctor because I caught a cold. This also included some random things.

TOTAL: $15442.4
The expenses went up quite a bit this month because I went out a lot. To be honest, some money was not well spent. This month taught me a lesson: money could go really fast if I socialize a lot. However, the number is still acceptable. I could still save more than 50% of my salary. Next month will be the last month of 2019 and I will have a trip with a friend. Let's see how much I will spend in the month of festivals.

What about you? How much did you spend in November? Please let me know by commenting below! See you next time!
